How can we stop HP printers from printing funny characters when the pager get stuck and waste tens of sheets?

When HP printers encounter a problem and when I stop and restart a printer it prints several sheets of funny characters on top of the sheet. It continues for about 20 to 30 sheets. How can we stop this.

1. Go to the HP website and download the most recent software for your printer. Also, if you have to turn off the printer during a print job, make sure you delete the print job off of the computer before you turn it back on. If there is a print job on the computer you will see a printer icon in the bottom right of your screen (near the time). Open that icon and right-click and cancel or delete any job listed. If you power on the printer when there is a job waiting it will print gibberish.
