Which laptop should I choose?

I don't speak laptop language so I was hoping that maybe someone could translate for me. I've saved 1000 dollars for a laptop (I know, I'll need more for accessories and such and I plan on saving another 500 or so.) I was thinking that a HP laptop would be the best decision (I know a couple people who own one) I'm not sure what anything means though, it's too technical on the website and I don't understand (Being the computer failure that I am). So do you think that you could tell me what to look for in a laptop. Thanks!

  1. I have a compaq computer, which is like a different brand name for hp, the battery is hp too. its amazing. i got it for about six hudnred. search the interent. its at walmart. anywhere. itsa great computer. with a microphone and a eye camera already built in. allthough my doesnt have the eye camera bc its an older verision but the newer ones do for the same price.
  2. i would recommend HP , they got some good laptops at low prices and high Performance ones at a bit expensive yet inside your budget. also the warranty is good, i have a nearly 2 years old hp pavillion and recently the motherboard fried because some Electric shortages where i live, yet my expired warranty had me a free repair or Performance upgrade and well.. i already received my laptop and such. and if you want accessory's..a good one is the lapcool2 from vantec to keep your laptop cool, it works without any wall plug, just usb and also works as a nice usb hub. :D
  3. Please contact me so we can discuss what you need, and I can send you some links, and teach you how to make an informed decision. Seriously.
  4. you need to look for one with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, (the more Ghz the better) this is the central processing unit and will have the greatest effect on the speed of the computer. you want at least 3gb of RAM (also called memory) the more the better, the more you have the more programs you can be using at once. you want at least a 250gb hard drive, and again, more is better. this holds the data on your computer, like your pictures, music, videos etc. if you want to play any real games (like the sims) on this you want to get one with a discrete graphics card, from Nvida or ATI.
