Computer hardware question for compaq and hp laptops?

So my friend has a pressario V4000 and it's in good condition, however after awhile it stop taking a charge and won't turn on. And for awhile they had to tweak the cable to get it turned on. So they think it's because if the power connection on the laptop itself. And my friend also has a hp entertainment pc but it won't take a charge or turn on even if the ac cable is pluged in. So what do you guys think?

  1. this happens ALOT to people who like to plug in thier laptop whenever possible 1st not all batteries have a memory but, some do that is that some batteries will remember how much juice was used in the first couple charges and that is set you only get that much juice out of it 2nd ALL batteries have a limited number of times they can be charged it may be 10 million times but, if the cord has a short and blinks of for a second that can count as a charge your best solution is most likely to buy a new battery most you can do it online but, make absolutely sure before you buy it that it is compatable with your laptop and shop around before you buy. then once you have the new battery first charge it before using it and the first time you charge it and several charges after let the battery die completely where your laptop turns off (as long as your not running anything when it turns off your fine) turn it back on let it die again then put it on the charger charge it completely and you can leave it on as long as you want but, when you take it off let it die completely before taking it off this will make your battery live as long as possible
