I trying to find out if Ignition coil make a big difference in hp?
hey there, right now i have stock Ignition coil. i went to get High Performance ones. what is the big difference and the two? ..... - In theory yes. The coil will produce a higher voltage to the spark plug, resulting in a hotter spark. The hotter the spark, the better the internal combustion burning more efficiently thus aiding to help create more power. You would need more then just a coil. Get a set of larger plug wires to reduce the resistance in the flow.
- With that, you will see a slight power gain, but wont be worth it. If you want a REAL spark, go with a MSD ignition system. It does wonders if you have the right feulling.
- A "big" difference.... absolutely not. A slight improvement maybe. In a stock automobile who knows. In a full custom max'ed out engine, yes you will notice a difference, but even in this type of application you won't know a "big" difference, just an improvement over a typical coil. A coil alone probably won't be worth it. It would be better to buy one of the upper design MSD ignition systems. Improvement even with this system might not be noticeable with a stock 4 or 6 cylinder engine. You'd be better off improving the flow of the intake side and exhaust side of your engine.
