Any really easy (I'm 60) free programs to network two wireless laptops to one printer?

I have a Dell and an Assus and a color Samsung printer the printer is plugged into a wireless router which is plugged into a modem supplied by my ISP I need a simple way to make the printer, print from both laptops. Now I go down stairs and USB directly to the printer to use it. Ideas? That an old guy can figure out.

  1. You should not need any extra software or hardware to do this. Keep your printer plugged in via USB. Make sure both computers are connected to your router. You will need to share the printer from your computer that is connected via USB. You will do this by going into control panel finding the printer, right clicking on it and choose "share." Once the printer is shared you will go onto the other computer and add a network printer. You should be able to browse your home network and find the printer you shared. I'm really giving you very high level instructions. You can get details by googling "share printer windows." Here are a few links that might help you. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/honeycutt_july2.mspx http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1596 http://lifehacker.com/software/step-by-step/share-a-printer-on-your-home-network-309015.php Good luck!
  2. If the printer is connected to the router it should be as easy as running the network setup. Just put the Samsung CD in a machine (use one that is also wired to the router - don't try it wirelessly!) Run the setup, it will find the printer and install the network drivers for it. That really is all there is to do. If you have the printer installed as a usb printer you still need to install it as a network printer by running the CD and do the "network" setup. Once installed, it will work.
