4 in 1 printer,fax,scanner, copier slow down my lap top?

Recently I purchased one of thoes 4 in 1 fax machines, I also have a hp pavilion lap top. My computer was already a bit slow, but ever since I hooked up the 4 in 1 HP printer it takes 10 minutes for it start, any recomendation? I really don't wanna return it back to the store, Do I need to clean up my computer or is there any other solution to this?

1. I bet you had to install software to use your printer...right? If so, that software is sucking up your computer resourses. Also, if i were you, i would just do a reformat and reinstall to make your computer fast again.
