Why do people say Chinese products are cheap when the HP laptop that I'm using right now is Chinese-made?

2. I think if it is made by a big brand like HP, no matter where it is made it will be of good quality. However cheap imitation brands manufactured in China are often of dubious quality. It may simply be that, because it has a huge population and a load of workers available that there are just many more companies manufacturing goods in China - more companies = more goods = more bad quality goods. Cutting edge semiconductor products like computer CPUs are a bit odd anyway, the standards of manufacture have to be astronomically high for them to even work in the first place (one transistor wrong out of tens of millions and bam.)
