Are the HP Laptops good performance, and durability wise?

Personally, I prefer Mac but for my first laptop, I want to get a PC. I was looking towards the HP Brand computers, but my question is, are HP Laptops good based on performance and durability? I will be mainly using the laptop for school work, and also internet but also want the computer to be good in performance! If HP Is not good, then what brands are good? Thank you!

1. I've seen one HP model literally fall apart on several occasions, the dv6000. I like Toshiba, Sony, Lenova, and Dell in that order.
2. HP and Dell are both good. Most of the problems reported are the fault of the OS not the hardware

4. Sure so are Dell,Toshiba, Sony, Gateway,& a host of others. What you want to avoid are eMachines,Compaq, & other cheap wanna be lower tier machines.
5. HP brand computers are of good performance and reliable also because HP is very famous after Apple and one or two other laptop companies so i think you should buy HP computers.
