How do I make my hp printer use only the color catridge?

I'm all out of black so I want it to use the color which is brand new but it only prints out blacks. On my lexmark printer [which is broke now] it used to automatically switch to color cartridge only if the black was not available I tried just taking out the black cartridge but then it refuses to print... help me?!?!

1. look for an option after you request a print called "complete a print" that should work Good luck!!!!! Ps. look in printer properties or settings
