How long have you had your laptop for?
And how often do you use it? Well i'm on mine like every single day and rarely put it off. I know i have very few programs on here and i keep it clean.. i think this helps a great deal with the speed (which has been just the same as the day i got it). It's been almost 2 yrs and when i bought it, the sales man told me that it wouldn't last me longer than 2 yrs. I've had to send it in for motherboard repairs a few times. But mostly, everything works perfectly and i've never had any other problem with it. I find it hard to believe that this laptop will not last me FOREVER. It's apparently a very good product.. maybe they underestimated how good this laptop is. It's the hp pavillion notebook, if anyone was wondering. The only types of laptops i've heard that really suck are the acers. Toshibas work really well and seem to last forever too. If you also have an hp pavillion, can you tell me how long you've had it for? And what i can expect? If you have another type of laptop, pls answer too. Describe your usage and treatment of the laptop too. Thanks u :)

- I've had my laptop for... 3 days! Yup, just got it Wednesday! But since then, I use it ever waking minute I'm not at school... I use it for video making and internet mainly. It rocks! It's a Dell Inspiron 1545 and it has 3 GB of RAM, 2.00 GH processor and 250 GB of Hard Drive Space
- I don't have a laptop any more, but when I did, the longest I had one was about 4 years. I've always used Dell machines.
- I have a Toshiba satellite that my dad gave me in 2004 - it was older than that. I use it for gaming - it's too old for new games, but it's the only machine that will recognize my Belkin gaming speed pad. It works as well today as it did when I got it. The DVD tray won't extend (I have to pull it out) but it's still a performer. I wouldn't say that Acer's suck. My 1st Pentium was an Aspire that lasted over 4 years.
- I've had mine for 3 years, it was top of the line when I got it, it's a sony vaio, but I have another one that is over 8 years old, I use it to back up my music, of course I've completely updated it to recent tech
- I got my Dell Inspiron 1150 in December of '03 I was told it would last forever either now here I am in 2009 and I have other notebooks but I primarily use the Dell and lets consider that I have only had to send it back 3 times since I got it. As long as you take care of it you are pretty good. Smart Idea on not having too much on yours I purchased an external drive when I got mine and literally any programs I had to install afterwards are saved on the drive.
- I've had my Dell laptop for 2 years now without a single problem now. I use my laptop everyday. QUIT THUMBS DOWNING EVERYONE!
- My laptop (and still my primary computer) is an HP Pavilion ZT3000. I've been using it for 5 years, 5 months and counting. It originally came with 512 MB RAM (256x2), upgraded to 1 GB (512x2), and finally to its maximum 2 GB (1024x2). The hard drive was a Toshiba 60 GB 4200 RPM. 2 years of use, it made a rattle sound so I replaced it with a Hitachi 60 GB 5400 RPM drive. It's been running happily ever since. It's been spinning for 29,000 hours according to S.M.A.R.T. Battery life was 3+ hours but since all batteries degrade over time regardless of usage, I barely get get 1 hour 30 minutes now. Not an issue now as I rarely use my laptop as a laptop. The CPU was a 1st generation Pentium M 1.5 GHz. I have upgraded it to a 2nd gen Pentium M 1.7 GHz. Windows Server 2003 is the operating system I use. Other OSes I've used/tinkered with it are Windows XP Home, XP Professional, XP Media Center Edition, Mac OS X 10.4, Mac OS X 10.5, Ubuntu, & Windows Vista. I'd say my laptop is in great physical condition compared others I see. I still have my ATI, Centrino, designed for Windows XP stickers all shiny and not faded. The paint is a bit scruffed up when I walked with it in my laptop bag. The reason my laptop has lasted as long as it has is because I take the time to clean it, take care of it. Perhaps luck that the motherboard and other components haven't catastrophically failed on me yet.
