How do I get my desktop to recognize my HP wireless printer?

I have a desktop that I use a verizon card for internet service. I purchased a wireless HP printer today. Is there any way that I can get my computer to recognize this printer? Thanks

1. Verizon "wireless internet" is NOT the same kind of "wireless" as the printer uses, the Verizon is essentially a data mobile phone in a card the printer uses Wifi (local networking on wireless) To use the printer you'd need a wireless router, or you need to plug a cable into the printer.
