is there a cheap way to increase the hp of a ford 4.6L v8?
i have a 2000 ford crown victoria P71 (police model). it has the 4.6 ford modular engine but some guys at work have these stock imports with sticks that have no problem keeping up. one is a mazda 3. the non turbo model. its close when me and him have been racing. my car does way around 4000 lb to there 2500-3000 lb cars. no one really sells a whole lot of Performance upgrades for those cars. is there a way to modify the lower intake plenum/manifold so that it still looks stock but performs better. i do have a k&n intake on it and a less restricted exhaust. im tired of getting beat by these stock v6 cars. im wanting to find something i can do in my driveway at home. but i still have to smog it so it needs to look stock. i thought i might go and get a upper plenum and a 75 mm throttle body for it. this is the url for the one im looking into getting but im not sure if it fits the crown vic's. http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=TFS%2DK51824075&N=700+4294908331+4294840044+4294888503+4294822100+115&autoview=sku

- your best bet is to add a chip to it depend on how much horsepower you want.. safer that way. cheapest way would be to advance your timing 2 degrees ..stop buy Sunoco Gas station and use high octane racing fuel 100 graded.dont use it all the time it will burn the rings off your piston. and when you put fuel in your car only fill it to a quarter of a tank.
- This car has different 4.6 then mustang and already has been woerked on for performance. You will not get anymore gain from this without a SC which will cost to do right 10,0000+
- Your power to weight ratio has you at a terrible disadvantage. The cheapest and best bang for the buck that "can't" be done at home is a set of gears. Try 3:73 to 1 and add a posi. I know its expensive but the look on those import guys faces might be worth it. Mike
- do you have an option of selling or trading? your looking at a few hundred for no matter what you wanna do. i agree with the chip first. and timing advance will give you some minor mph's only on the top end though. which your not seeing anyway against any 6 banger. they'll never stay with you over 120+/-. so you need giddee up. too heavy at the moment. how much you gonna invest in this car?
