HP Store Online

Is this the correct hard drive to purchase?

I very recently suddenly started getting frequent blue screens (of death) on my notebook, and it only seemed to be getting worse. When I attempted to reinstall my computer with the recovery drive, I got the blue screen during the process which left my operating system files corrupted. I then tried to reinstall with the recovery disc, but during that process when it automatically restarted, I got an error telling me that "windows\system32\winload.exe” is missing or corrupt." I emailed HP and they told me that my hard drive might need to be replaced. Does this seem like the likely problem? HP told me to buy it from an HP parts store, but I would much rather buy a new notebook than pay $600 for a replacement hard drive. Instead, I did some searching on the internet and found better prices, but I have some questions. First, two of the websites I’m looking at; compstick.com and upgradewiz.com offer similar prices at $90-$100 for a 250 GB hard drive. Are any of you familiar with these websites? Are they trustworthy? Second, while I searched for the exact part number HP provided, the description for the hard drive says it’s for HP Pavilion DV6500, DV6600 and DV6700 series. My notebook is a DV6000 series. Is this still compatible? Thanks for your help.

  1. go to newegg.com. You don't need an "HP" hard drive. Just make sure you get a 2.5" laptop drive, that has SATA connectors. Beyond that, the only thing that matters is the warranty on the drive. I'd recommend a Western Digital or Seagate drive, though you'll find people that disagree, just like some people like Ford or Chevy, PC or Mac, butter or jam, etc. Here's a cheaper 250GB hard drive, that has better performance: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136279 And another 250GB that is a little cheaper (but slower): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136123 Either will work just fine.
  2. Get a Hard Drive from newegg.com This site is very trustworthy. You probably need a SATA drive, but make sure you get the right one. I just bought one for $50 (OEM Drive)
  3. I have a DV6000 model and my hard drive crapped out. Hp told me the same thing and I said screw that. Try the link below for a hard drive. www.newegg.com They are one of the biggest computer retailers online.
