Gaming Computer question!?

Hey Everyone. I designed a desktop at the HP website but I'm a little behind the times as to what makes a good gaming PC. What I designed is in my price range but I'm not sure how strong it is. I'd like to be able to play the latest games without any trouble and to blow the older games out of the water at high settings. Please see below and let me know what you guys think about what I picked out: HP Pavilion Elite d5200t ATX customizable Desktop PC NE504AV#ABA – Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit) – Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Quad processor Q9400 [2.66GHz] – SAVE $40! 8GB DDR2-800MHz dual channel SDRAM [4x2048] – 500GB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive – 1GB NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT [2 DVI, HDMI adapter] – LightScribe 16X max. DVD+/-R/RW SuperMulti drive – LAN port on system board (10/100/1000Base-T), no wireless LAN – 15-in-1 memory card reader, 2 USB, 1394, audio – No TV Tuner w/remote control – Integrated 7.1 channel sound with front audio ports – HP stereo speakers with subwoofer and remote (2.1) 30W – HP keyboard and HP optical mouse – Microsoft(R) Works 9.0 – Norton Internet Security(TM) 2009 - 15 month – HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope Estimated build date: March 12, 2009 Please keep in mind that I'm trying to save as much money as possible so anything that doesn't appear to boost graphics power, I have to skimp on. I'd love to have your opinions everyone! As far as payment goes that one is priced at 1450 or so and then has a 200$ instant rebate that brings my cost down to 1250. So do you think that would be a good value?

  1. First things first, how much did you pay? That computer will more than cover you... you'll be set for a few years to come. My concern would be the price. A proprietary computer with those specs would be outrageously priced, I'd think. If you have to save money, knock the RAM down to 6GB and the video card down to 512MB. This all depends on what type of games you want to play. Also, most games do not use quad core processing power, so you could always downgrade to a 3.0+ghz dual core. Just my suggestions.
  2. Your computer should run all of those new games just perfectly. I have just about the same set up and it runs my games great. when you get your computer you can go to this website and it will run a system scan on the game you choose to see if you computer will run it. The site is called canyourunit.com
  3. If u really want to blow older games out of the water, and still play new games at high, u have to build your own All the big retailers only offer a max of a 9800GT but that card isnt powerful enough to play any of the newer games at a high res and a high setting so build your own, u will be cheaper, and more powerful
