why do hp laptops pavilion dv4000 start up so slowly?

Most of the time when i click my on button, it takes at least a minute for my laptop to boot up and sometimes the mouse sticks or stalls.

1. because of all of the programs starting up when you first boot the computer. open your start menu and type "msconfig" in the run/search box. Then go to the startup tab. Then you can uncheck all of the programs you do not want automatically opening when you first boot your computer... like AIM Itunes bittorrent etc...
2. Looking at it's spec... it's not a great laptop. Your processor is fairly slow, you don't have much RAM and you're hard drive isn't very big either, it's not all that surprising.
3. because it's not a mac :D -love my mac
4. check your start up programs and disable some running progs. anti virus prog can also affect running your pc.
