Windows Vista,Laptop computer HP printer usb connected. When the usb cable is unplugged from the printer?

and re plugged in another version of the printer is installed . Why is this? There are now under control panel ,printers 10 copies of the printer. Why does the system add another copy each time the USb printer cable is inserted. Advice please.
