How do I make my HP3650 printer work with ink cartridges refilled at Walgreen's?

The technician at Walgreen's did a print test and the cartridges are filled with ink; however, my printer won't recognize the cartridges and the error message keeps telling me to go buy HP cartridges. Guess I've just wasted $25?? The technician said there is a way to make them work, but couldn't tell me how.

2. you may save money by using refilled cartridges but you sure won't be nice to your printer. the refilled cartridges are watered down and do considerable harm to your printer buy new
