I replaced the toner on my new Brother HL 2040 laser printer, and now it won't work.?

The ink looks very faint after a few pages. If I roll the blue thing on the drum, it looks better for about 5 pages, then does the same thing again. Did I mess up the drum somehow? Is the toner bad?
