Does HP laptops really suck just because of its brand name?
People say that Compaq sucks and HP is the same as compaq, but I found this laptop: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10760321 and the specs. aren't bad, but just because of the bad thinking of the brand from people(hp), it doesn't mean this laptop is crap right? Thank you.

- Compaq is HP, but Compaq sucks simply because Compaq is HP's budget/low-end/bargain brand. An HP is actually very good. But they use the "Compaq" name for their low-end craptastic laptops. It's kind of like the difference between a Toyota and a Lexus; both are technically from the same car company but a Lexus is a lot better.
- Compaq is owned by HP. HP makes lower end computers and labels them as compaqs. I've owned a compaq desktop unit for 3 years and had no problems what so ever. Plus I have recommended the brand to my friends and they bought laptops. They have not encountered problems either. If the price is right definitely by the laptop.
- DO NOT BUY COMPAQ! DO NOT BUY COMPAQ! The problem with these cheap pieces of garb is they have so much proprietary software that they almost inevitably tend to crash (CRASH HARD). As a person that volunteers his services to friends for computers I have to say, Compaq is my #1 pro-bono client. As for HP, I happen to love HP. Any none Compaq HP is what I prefer when it's available. Strong, reliable, efficient. Comparing HP to being Compaq is like saying a Mustang and a Taurus are the same thing just because they were made by Ford. We all know Taurus sucks big eggs. Buy HP. DON'T BUY COMPAQ! Now rate me best. .
- well, there's no brand name sucks.. trust me.. people's perceptions are different, if compaq and HP sucks, why would they be selling as top 5 laptop retailers??? it's very improtant we do not generalize the issues and isolate the models.. some models from some brands are pretty bad, because they use poor combination of hardware and specifications.. my best friend in buying laptop is reviews... so, if u want this machine, read at least, 10 reviews.. about this laptop, and you decide, many sites always show pros and cons of each laptop.. for example, if u buy Acer, it may be cheap, sometimes Acer is pretty good too... Lenovo is not bad as well, but I pretty much like HP nowadays especially the piano finish like the one u showed.. i think it's a great choice, but always google or yahoo such as "reviews HP Pavilion dv2988nr Laptop PC with AMD Turion" but please bare in mind that AMD Turion are pretty hot while operating for quite long time.. unless ur in 80% cold countries, yet, i recommend Intel Core 2 Duo. all the best with ur new laptop.
