How do you use the scanner in the HP psc 1350 all in one printer?

In my Hewlett Packard printer/scanner/copier, I'm having some trouble using the scanner. I wanna scan a couple of my photos into my macbook but whenever I press the scan button, it doesn't respond. My friend told me that I had to download some kind of application from the hp website for free to use or something. If you could just find that software or application for me to download to make my scanner work I would really appreciate it. Oh and please give me the url to the website where you found some information on using this scanner or downloaded the application from. Thank You.
