Are Acer brand laptops any good?

I am interested in purchasing a laptop and I need one in my price range. I notice that the Acer brand laptops are cheaper than HP laptops. Are Acer brand laptops any good? Are there any common problems with Acer laptops that I should be aware of?

10. I'm just writing on one. they are good but mine gets reeeaaaallly hot, like burning on your skin. the model is: acer aspire 5670. but it's good anyway. I'm happy with it.

13. Acer is a very good value. I have a friend who needed a "cheap" computer for business travel. He got an Acer. It's been dropped and knocked about so much. Yet it survives! He can't say that about the pricey Toshiba that split open on it's only drop... He left it on his car roof, and it slid off, hit the diveway, and was destroyed. He's had his Acer for about 2 years, and he loves it.
