- Kinda tough without the OS disk. See if the backup files are in a partition on the HDD
- Start > All Programs > Recovery Manager > Recovery Manager > Advanced Options > System Recovery > Next > Follow Directions after it restarts. This is to get it back to factory settings
- It should have a Recovery Partition on the hard drive you can use that to restore the laptop to factory settings like when you bought it, also they usually have a program that lets you create a Recovery CD but id just use the RP on the HDD as its faster
- HP is a pain with reformatting/restoring. Call Tech Support. 800-HP invent or 800-474-6836(Open 24/7) and ask them for help, they'll either give you they for the Restore Partition on your harddrive, or send you restore CD's. When I did this, I preferred the CD's, because I was about to run out of warranty, and they only make you pay $10 for 3 day shipping. Goodluck
- Joel, you didnt mention what operating system you use Windows Vista or XP.in every system they have defferent methods of restoring as far as i noticed.anyway, try this one for Vista restart your laptop then tap the F8 key in your keyboard until you see something like as follows....Repair your Computer,Safe Mode,Safe Mode with Net working,Safe Mode with command prompt, last known configuration and so on.. Once you seen this then just click the words repair your computer then follow the next step shows in your screen that will bring you in complete system restore (back to manufacturer settings). For XP all i remember is just the restorepoint in the controll pannel i forgot the other one which is hit the F10 or F2 something but you can try it just make it sure that you didnt change anything except what you looking for at that set up otherwise you end up to buy or find a Windows CD.I'm using Vista now for a year thats why i forgot about XP sorry buddy.
