what are the advantages of the new LCD monitors on laptops? ?

Im looking to buy a new laptop this upcoming holiday season and saw the new LCD screens. I'm looking to buy from the HP custom online store and wanted to know if the extra $100+ is worth it. How much do these screens improve battery life and will they become mainstream soon enough for me to wait or will they be an additional upgrade for a while? Thank you for your help, the tech stores don't help much.

New laptops LCD are wide and better picture quality.
lcd (liquid crystal display)these are very good for playing games with better texture and can be clear on bright lights ! ! !
I just got one.. and i think its great. the resoultion it really high and personally i love it. but im not sure about the $100+ because i haven't really used older ones?
simple answer is they look better, richer color etc, more importantly they are easier on your eyes - less eye strain they do use less power, take up less desk space too
Basically the difference between the LCD screens on the laptops are the capabilities of the resolutions sizes. I have a laptop with WXSGA LCD screen and it supports 1440 x 900 pixels on a 15.4" moitor where as on the other standard LCDs 15.4" you may only get 1280 x 900 Cheers AR
