is every adapter the same for HP laptops?

I need a new one and I was wondering what do I need to tell in the store, only which brand the laptop is or something more?

2. No, they are not. Find your model number first of all. It is located on the bottom of your laptop, on a sticker with the HP logo on it. The first line should read something like " Product: HP Pavillion dv6000. " I am including a link from Best Buy for a HP adapter, it says which models it is compatible with. They appear to sell just one, however, I personally own 2 different model HP laptops and they are 2 totally different size connectors. They also sell universal laptop adapters that are handy is you have multiple computers or if you think you might have use for a different plug at some point in the future, since they aren't exactly cheap.
