Is there a high import duty for laptops ? Most companies charge 2.5 times the US price in India?

Most Laptop companies(Dell, Lenovo, HP, etc) charge exorbitant prices in India. A model that costs around $1K in US has a price tag of more than Rs. 85K in India. That's more than double. What are the import duty and other charges levied for importing laptops by our bloodsucking govt ? A Dell Latitude D830 sells for $859 (i.e. Rs. 36,937 at $1 = Rs. 43) in US. The base price of the same model in India is Rs.75,990.00. Additional costs for improvements, etc. Why this huge discrepancy ? Considering the earning ratio for same job in US and India, this looks even more ridiculous. The same model costs RM 4350/- in Malayasia. At the conversion rate of 1RM = Rs. 13.28, that is Rs. 57,768/-. So why do Indians have to pay through their nose ?
