How do I install my HP 1020 printer driver onto my Linux system?

My husband made a Linux system from our old Windows comp and I would like to install our printer drivers on it...how do I do that? Ubuntu 8.04 32 bit is what we are using now.

  1. See the link below for the HP instructions to get a Linux compatible driver and the installation instructions.
  2. Here's a list of HP printer drivers for linux: http://www.openprinting.org/show_driver.cgi?driver=hpijs
  3. The Linux install should include ALL hp drivers that were current at time of release. There are also a lot of generic HP drivers which should work if one is not available. During the printer setup all you should need to do is select the HP list, then the correct machine. Also with Linux drivers, a driver for a similar machine will normally work if there is no suitable generic one. On older Linux systems I have been able to connect very late printers just by using another model with the pcl for pcl printers or postfix for postfix ones, often getting better results than on Windows.
