  1. Dell and Apple. It depends on whether you want Windows and both are pretty low on prices so go for it.
  2. IBM
  3. Dell is good. I own a Compaq. Don't buy one from Radio Shack. They sell refurbished, junk units as new units.
  4. compaq coz I'vs one.
  5. Apple. Far away the best.
  6. My personal fave is IBM and the high end laptops are best no matter. I also own Compaq/HP/Dell, and all have valid purpose. My suggestion is to get one with the best processor you can, the highest RAM possible, the best warranty, any features you absolutely have to have, though not in a gaming/accessory sense, and shop all of them within your budget range. Apple is a comp I used many years ago and have no clue what their connect capabilities are to other PC programs or ISP servers, but I'll assume that most comps use windows otherwise, and are moderately user friendly and upgradable. 7. if you like Windows and are used to working with them then: DELL or TOSHIBA but if not then APPLE it is amazing, if your willing to learn to use Macintosh. And if you are going to be doing a lot of design or using graphics, APPLE is by far the best!
  8. Dell, hahaha, don't make me laugh. NOT Dell. Let's see, not Compaq either. Good ones (in no particular order): Apple Fujitsu HP IBM Sony Toshiba Panasonic is good if you need one of their Toughbooks. Only go with Apple is you absolutely positively NEED to run OSX applications (or you just want OSX because it is cool). Of course you can always install Windows XP on your MacBook as well using Boot Camp. Don't know where you live but the only place to buy Apple laptops is through the Apple store. Circuit City generally has good deals on laptops though they do not sell Apple. Sometimes CompUSA has good prices as well. I tend not to buy laptops online as this is not something I am willing to wait to get shipped to me unless all of the in store laptops have integrated graphics.
  9. In my opinion you could go with any of the manufacturers listed above, you just want to make sure that you have the extended warranty plan. Most of your laptops will come with a 1 year warranty (check and make sure) and in some cases if the unit needs repair you might have to send it into the service facility. I know with the acer brand it has some innovative features with their empower button (similar to IBMs think vantage), but every manufacturer puts some type of proprietary software on their system. IBM has their bio metric security measures (but you can get a usb finger print reader that could accomplish the same thing) and their hardware maintenance manuals are very thorough in showing the assembly of the computer. I say just compare features and take the plunge.
  10. dell because they made the great xps m170 for gaming
  11. Buying a laptop can be a nightmare! More so if you are a computer geek. With all the technical jargon floating around, companies can make you crazy. Most of the companies listed make good laptops. Comapnies like Sony and Panasonic are more of consumer electronics companies. Their motive of having a range of laptops is basically to complete their product line. IBM has recently sold its THINKPAD (IBM's brand name for laptops) to Lenovo. However, Lenovo's range of thinkpad laptops is a bit expensive for the same hardware configuration offered by other hardware vendors. Toshiba has a very good range of laptops. The only problem is that it is not very well serviced around the world. Apple laptops or rather iBooks (Apple's brand name for their laptops) is very good and attractive. The only problem here is that they are designed to integrate with their own operating system i.e. Apple's MAC. Recently, they have introduced laptops compatible with Microsoft Windows XP. But one really doesn't know the technical back up support Apple would provide in case one is using Microsoft Windows XP. Acer has a good range of laptops but agian one is not sure of the after sales support they provide. Seeing strictly from a business perspective, HP mainly focuses its attention to printing hardware. It has traditionally been a company with excellent printers. However, after the acquisition of Compaq, HP has introduced an excellent line of laptops. But their customer support remains a bone of contention. This is where DELL beats most of its competitors. Backed with excellent telephonic technical support and next business day on site support, DELL addresses the critical problem a customer faces in time of a crisis. This is one quality, the other companies are hardly able to match. Moreover, DELL focuses its primary attention to assembling Laptops and Desktops. This enables it to provide innovative mix of products that cater to a customers from all walks of life with a college going student at one end to hungry needs of corporate IT customers and governments on the other. Further, DELL is the one of the first hardware vendors to successfully introduce new products launched by other IT hardware developers like Intel, nVidia, ATI etc. However, one cannot conclusively say which company is better. The choice of a laptop is very personal and individualistic.

  13. I've only got experience with Compaq, and it hasn't been good. I've got both a PDA and a laptop. The PDA has lost all data so many times I don't even bother installing stuff on it anymore. And currently, my laptop has crashed for the billionth time and this time, it took the operating system with it. It seems like most people would recommend a Dell. From what I hear you can get a laptop for a good price with excellent customer service. As far as online stores go, I'm not sure I'd recommend that for such a significant purchase. The only reason is because if there's a problem, it will be much more difficult to get the problem fixed. Whereas with an in-store purchase, if there's a problem, you can always go back there and complain. But if you are set on purchasing online, I'd recommend going with a store you're familiar with that is well-established. Like Amazon.com or something.
