I need a replacement laptop harddrive?

My 4 year old laptop's hdd just kicked out on me, I have pretty much 2 choices. Try to find a new replacement laptop or scramble money together for a new desktop before I head off to college again in a month. I have no real idea about how to go trying to find a replacement hdd and I could use some help. My laptop is a HP ZV6000 (they do not make the model anymore and do not carry the original hdd in their online parts store). I know the hdd dimensions are 2.5" x 4" so I am wondering what I should look for next. Will any 2.5" hdd fit? Could you recommend some manufacturers for me to look at? Or should I just suck it up, toss my $1300 (price when I bought it new 4 years ago) laptop out and get a $400 cheepo desktop?

1. try to save up money. sell some things on ebay or livejournal. It's better to get a good laptop when you head off to college. Ask your parents to get you one for birthday or for college or good grades. Persuade them or write an essay dedicated. It works!
