nearly 10 k variation is there for laptops of almost similar config why its so. is there anything to do with their performance

HP has a LOT more marketing than acer. There is TV commercials and magazine ads (and internet banners) everywhere. I don't remember the last time I ever saw acer advertising anything. Also HP is appealing to teens, since they make the typical "Store all your music, pictures and videos" statement which is what teens are going for right now.
they may have the same specs but the suppliers' quality of components are different, acer has a really bad reputation here on reliability most likely because of crap components
Yes, I totally agree with you that there is a huge difference in the rates of these two brand. When it comes to HP it has killing looks which acer lacks. Also HP gives you many new features like media buttons which really looks cool. They also provide you with the remote control for the laptop. They also gives you freebies upto Rs 7000 (TV tuner card/Wireless headphone). If you calculate all this thing which acer lacks. You feel good in showing your HP laptops to other. The difference is same as that in a IPOD and a MP3 player.
