how to add up hp on my vw bug with a stock engine,single carb?

hi I;m rod from Philippines. I'm 18..I had a vw bug 67..before i really hate vw's..but time passes by I learned to love the car..so I had it restored and put some accessories on it..and because I'm still a student i don't have the capability to spend much..so how can I add hp on my car??..by the way the muffler fell off so i had straight pipes on it instead..you can view some of the pics on friendster.com...my e-mail add is chopsuy04@yahoo.com..thanks

2. You should know that you're limiting the life of the this vw engine by adding straight pipes on it. The muffler on the vw serves several purposes and straight pipes destroys them all. You can add horse power. But since the vw engine is so cheap, why don't you have one stock and one you experiment with. You're going to to destroy the experimental one unless you understand what you're doing. First its an air cooled engine, unlike anything going. You could put in bigger pistons, put in milled heads.
