How does the quality of movies on a compact digital camera compare to a digital camcorder?
I'm thinking of buying a Panasonic Lumix 6MP camera. Is the movie mode with sound on a digital camera any good? How does it compare with the movies shot on a digital camcorder? Picture quality and sound? I ask this because I'm going on a long trip and it would be nice if I only have to take one thing with me instead of two. BigCol65: Thanks for your answer. I've looked up the Fuji camera you described and it looks quite large (SLR). Ideally, I'd like a compact camera which I can fit in my pocket.

- they are as poor as Video Cameras are poor at taking photos
- some panasonics don't have sound go to panasonic site to be sure the quality is ok
- Hi, I have a Vivitar X60 10.1MP and while the picture quality is very good I have to say that I am a little disappointed that only basic format is allowed in this mode also no function of either optical or digital zoom is permitted unlike on a camcorder. Also the sound quality suffers when anything more than a light breeze is present as it replays as if a gale is blowing across the mic. That aside it will shoot 26 mins on a 1Gb flash card and as I stated before the replay quality is very good if not exceptional. Also my camera has no viewfinder only the LCD screen and I really would not buy another without a viewfinder because if the weather is sunny it's almost impossible to take a good shot - photo or video.. Hope this helps..
- Great camera, but the fuji finepix 9600 is a better spec, 9mp 28-300 zoom, and put the largest compact flash card 2gig and also takes xd picture card the picture quality on my 42 inch tv very good as a compromide there isnt anything as good
