Question about Nikon SLR Digital Cameras...?
My dad has a Nikon F5 35mm camera. He says that if I buy a Nikon Digital body that his old lenses will work. Is this true? Is it worth using the old lenses, or should I get a completely new kit?

- yup it will still work but if ur dad's old lens is a manual lens then you will have to focus manually with is a hassle, i recommend you buying a new kit. the old kit can still be used as a reserve
- it depends which lens, if is a manual lens the only "problem" you will have will be autofocus. If the camera have a focus motor in it and the lens is AF, it will autofocus. If you are good focusing you can use any lens. Amunt VAlencia!!!
- Yes your dad has a F5 which is an auto focus camera, but if you get a D40 or D40x and the lens are not AF-S or a AF-I then it will not auto focus, but there will be a green light in the camera telling you that the lens is in focus with any lens with a aperture of 5.6 or larger.
- Yes, any lens your dad's F5 will use, can be used on any Nikon DSLR you buy. Since your fathers F5 was released in 1996 and the AF-I which were the very expensive pro lenses of the early 1990s and the AF-S in 1998, the chances of any of his lenses not working on a D40 are slim.
- Your lens will work indeed. Unless (like other have mentioned) you get a D40, then chances are you will have to manual focus the lens. But the lens will still meter and you will still get a focus indicator. Is it worth it using the old lens... depends. What are the old lens? If your dad has an F5, chances are he have a pretty kicka$$ lens and I think it is wise to use them. However since most DSLR today have focal length multiplier (1.5x), you might want to get a wide angle lenses too (in case your dad doesn't have something in the range of 17/18mm on the wide end).
