i hear there is a health risk to laser printers is it true?

Laser printers could pose the same health risk as passive smoking, 27% emitted hazardous levels of particles, which are so fine they are not readily filtered by the lungs, but the tests took no account of variables such as printer age or cartridge type that could affect emission levels

  1. I seriously doubt it.
  2. My answer is baloney.
  3. What I've heard is that toner (the black or colour components in the ink) are carcinogens. So don't touch the cartridge too much don't sniff it and don't lick laser printed pages...
  4. It has been stated by a certain study. HP totally dismissed the study as false tough.
  5. well as far as i know they are quite safe.
  6. Lasers are beams of light.. They don't give off anything.
  7. Your kidding right? I do believe most of the people in the world have laser printers and have you heard of anyone dieing or developing a health risk from it? Just stop sniffing the ink and you will be fine.
  8. Did you mean "...a health risk to us from laser printers"? I think that truck belching out black smoke in front of your vehicle is more of a health risk than any of the above.
  9. That is according to a research done by the Queensland University. The average printer releases toner particles that can get deep into the lungs and cause respiratory problems and cardiovascular trouble. The team tested 62 laser printer models--all relatively new -- and found that 17 of them were "high emitters" of toner particles. The particles have not had a full chemical analysis, but some are potential carcinogens. Several of the high emitters were Hewlett-Packard LaserJet models, such as the 1320 and 4250, although eight HP LaserJet 4050 series printers were shown to have no missions. The study included Canon, HP LaserJet, Ricoh and Toshiba printers.
  10. Life is a health risk. HP Dismisses Laser Printer Health Risks Printer manufacturer claims that emissions from its laser printers do not pose a danger. http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,135496-c,monochromelaser/article.html Start your research here; http://www.google.com/search?q=laser%20printer%20%2B%20health%20risk&sourceid=groowe&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 Make it a great day!
  11. Interesting question. Laser printers generate Ozone, which could be a respiratory risk to some people. Certainly, there should be aqueduct ventilation where it is used. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ozone Passive Smoking hazards are significantly different. Ozone is not even mentioned. What is discussed is the 4000 chemicals, including 69 known carcinogens such as formaldehyde, lead, arsenic, benzene, and radioactive polonium 210. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passive_Smoking#Short-term_effects There are minimal health risks due to particulate matter from laser printers. This risk is reduced by cleaning up spills with a proper HEPA filter equipped vacuum cleaner. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser_printer But if you really want speed and cost savings, I recommend a (black only) laser printer. You see, the toner might cost a penny per page printed, and an inkjet printer might cost between 4 and 12 cents per page. When buying an inkjet printer, LOOK at the capacity and PRICE of the cartridges and not the PRICE of the printer. The money that you save on he printer will cost you in INK many times over. Good luck and Happy Computing!
