What brand of digital cameras is best for high optical zooms?

I need a digital camera with which I can take pictures of my son, who is college football player. I think I need one that has a 10x optical zoom feature, so he won't just look like a DOT on a printed photo.

1. Canon S3 IS is a good camera with good image stabilization. Olympus SP550 is great. Its having 18x Zoom.
2. I'd agree with Sudewa, but I'd also point out that the Olympus is a brand new and unproven camera. The Canon S3-IS has been out about a year and very well accepted.
