Laptop insurance and Lo-jack? Are they even worth getting?

I'm on a 1200 dollar budget to buy a laptop. I am using it primarily for school related activities. I also want to use it to download music. So I wanted to know what you all reccomend. Is lojack worth buying? Is additional insurance worth buying? I am looking at the hp dv2000t from the HP website: For 1,072 I get: Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic (32-bit) Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo T2350 (1.86GHz/ 2MB L2Cache) 1GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) 80GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive Microsoft(R) Office Home and Student 2007 Norton Internet Security(TM) 2007 - 15 Months CD RW/DVD additional insurance offered cost $100 for a year. Lo-jack costs $50 for a year. (FYI I live outside NYC, not in the foothills of Kansas) My other option is the MacBook $999 (w/ student discount) w/ Office 2004 for Mac Total 1150 80GB Serial ATA @ 5400 rpm Accessory Kit 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Combo Drive (DVD-ROM/CD-RW) 1GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x512 Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English THANKS!!!

  1. I would say if the laptop was worth over 5,000 then the lojack would be totally worth it, if the laptop isnt brand new then i would get the insurance
  2. Go for it
  3. Lojack is integrated in IBM/Lenovo laptops and costs $99 for three years of service. I own a Lenovo X60s ($2300 cost) that I maxed out. Lenovo's and Apples are the two most reliable laptops made.
