MY printer cable is not compatible with my Dell tower?

I have just acquired a HP laserjet 5 monochtome printer (excellent workhorse) but the cable supplied is not compatible with the dell 5100 tower that I have, there is no male to female connection, can anyone suggest what I need to do ???? Many Thanks

  1. A) if it's a modern (<5 years old) printer, just hook a usb cable to it and use that. Or any other type of potential connection. I say USB because it should accept that and you may already have one or be able to get one easily. B) if it only accepts parallel cable (the very wide older style of printer connection) you may need to get the appropriate cable to connect it up, probably male for the computer end, and probably female for the printer end.
  2. I'm thinking you might not have the right cable supplied, you could see if there's a store that has the correct gender, for the parellel cable, just make sure it's an IEEE cable (db25). You could also use a usb to parellel cable (usb to db25). good luck.
