My photo printer took a power surge. If I buy a new AC power adapter will I be able to use it again?

The printer was not turned on, but was plugged in. The power to the house went out and then came right back on. The next time I went to use the printer...nothing. I can only assume it took a surge but am wondering if I replace the AC power adapter if it will work again. Is the printer itself blown or just the power supply since the printer wasn't on?

  1. Unfortunately there is no way to tell. The power adapter may have stopped the surge and prevented the board of the printer itself from being damaged. Or it might not have. Depends on how the adapter was designed (so do and some don't) and how powerful the surge was. Price out the replacement power adapter, and then compare that to the price of new printer. Depending on the printer, there are many decent ones on the market that are about the same price as the adapter itself. But without hooking a new adapter and trying the printer, there is no way to tell if it survived the surge,
  2. All you can do is try it and pray. Good luck
