Can I upgrade the power supply unit in my HP m7640n Media Center PC?
HP tech support said yes last night now the guy tonight tells me NO. I purchased a better graphics card that requires 420 W of power. My HP that I just bought only has 300 W. Fry's Elctronics says I can upgrade and they sold me a 600 W Cooler Master ATX12V 2.0v unit. HP says this will burn out the mother board.

- It is easy, just go back to Fry's and get an ATX power supply. I did the same thing, bought an ATI Radeon X 1900 XTC That needed some special connectors and more power than the original power supply had. So I went and got a 520 Watt ATX Master Cooler power supply from CompUSA and within 15 minutes of being home had it all installed. That was 4 months ago and everything is fine and dandy. I think the guy at HP is crazy because even though the power supply has higher rating it is not hitting the mainboard with more current! Good luck and dig in there. It is great fun.
