Do I need a new power supply to upgrade the video card in an HP Pavillion a6110n?

Can I just pop a new video card into it to use it for gaming, or does it need a new power supply first? Where do I get one of those?

  1. It's going to depend on what your current power supply is and what you plan on putting in. You can put certain cards in it without upgrading it though. How many watts does it provide and how many amps on the 12V rail? Compare that to what the manufacturer states as the recommended power supply. If you need a new one, check out newegg.com and Seasonic PSUs are pretty awesome.
  2. A quick glance on Google shows it to be 250w power supply, so an upgrade might be a good idea anyway. Try checking out Newegg.. or any online computer parts vendor, really.
  3. I would get a new power supply anyway. You can blow your motherboard if you power supply goes out. 250 watts is way to low. I got a 480 watt at outletpc.com for under $18.00
