My power supply for my computer (hp pavilion) has burnt out. How much does it cost to replace it?

- try ebay they my have some cheap ones there but it depends on how old and what brand it is. or try Frys electronics they have some cheap products. However, if you go to the hp pavilion site you can see how much it cost for a brand new one because most of the ones on ebay or refurbished.
- Chances are that you have to go to a store to have this replaced that sells hp's. HP Pavilion's come with undersized power supplies so you can't just buy a new one off the shelf. Hope it's under warranty. *** NEW REPLY COMMENT ***** It does matter the age, but Pavilion do have smaller sized power supplies on their models (not all of them). If the computer has a burnt power supply, good chance it is not new. I have 3 HP's in my shop now that wont take a standard sized power supply. If this is a small box (tower), don't expect fitting a normal sized power supply in it.
- Well first of all we need to know how old the computer is. Second it depends if you get it from HP or an aftermarkert and third if you install it yourself of get it professionally installed. You can get one at www.newegg.com for about $12. Hp powersupplies are not undersized because i use to have one and i replaced it with a store bought one.
- First of all, I would try to figure out what caused your power supply to burn out before replacing it. If its just old, thats one thing, but normally a PS just doesn't go bad. Check all your connectors and cables to make sure they are not damaged, etc. You can also take your power supply to a local PC shop and they can run a load check on it to see if it is bad. If the power supply is bad and nothing else is wrong, you should be able to get a replacement power supply at any office supply or local PC shop. My recommendation is that you remove the power supply from the case and take it with you. Before you buy a new PS, make sure the size is the same. You may also want to consider upgrading the power output on it as well. Most standard PC's come with around a 400w power supply. It may be worth the extra few dollars to upgrade to a 500 or even 750w power supply.
