Windows ME recognises a HP PSC 1500 & prints a test page - then reports a USB error for printing a document?

A friend has been given a Hewlett-Packard Printer/Scanner/Copier - he's done a clean installation from the supplied cd - plugged USB cables in as and when told - printed a test page from Device Manager - uninstalled all other printers - ME says drivers are ok (but then the best word I've ever about ME is abortion) - when he tries to print a document he gets a dialog box citing a "unidentified system fault on USB 00x"

1. just update the windows update with the lates software and update device drivers for the system of the usb then it will work or remove the usb device drivers and reinstall the drivers .
