My HP laptop computer mouse is not working please.?

It was all working perfectly until recently. I tried fixing an external mouse but its still did not work. Because i cant move the cursor maround to select, it's difficult to carry out system restore to probably correct the problem. Need Your Help Most Urgently Please.

1. an external mouse, as in one without a cord? hmm. if I were you I'd take out all of the parts of the mouse, including the USB plug-in, and putting in a regular mouse, cord and all. if you're having difficulty turning off your computer.. make sure you know what is open and that nothing needs to be saved, and just turn off your computer manually -OR if that doesn't work, disconnect the power to your computer. i hope i helped!
2. There is a small button and light above the touch pad. If the light is red, it means the touch pad is locked. To unlock just press the button until the light turns blue.
