HP computer problems with login screen?

I have an HP laptop computer and for some reason when I went to turn it on the screen where the windows XP logo comes on (with a blue background) my laptop stops working. Once I reach the Blue Background with the XP logo my computer doesn't show anything but that. Does my laptop have a chance of being saved? Please help, Thank You I've had this laptop for 6 years and it's the first major thing that happened to my computer. some people are confusing it with the BSOD. What I mean is that its the screen that has the actual windows XP icon with the flag shaped thing. It comes on before it takes you to your desktop or before you log in. The screen doesn't say anything or have anything written on it, only the logo for Microsoft.

  1. ofcourse there is. you should try recovering your system files with the Windows XP CD.
  2. Try tapping the F8 key when you go to post and select "Last Known Good Startup. Avatarxz
  3. That is a stop error. It is commonly reffered to as a BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death). To help you further I would have to know what your BSOD is saying to you. So you may want to contact me once you've written it down. Beyond that, you may want to try holding down the power button while it is trying to load to windows (that will shut it back down). By shutting it down mid-load, you'll confuse it into giving you start-up options. You'll get the option to go into safemode with networking, which is what you'll want to do. If you can do that, then you're problem is somewhere in the software (which means your parts are all good). So if you can boot to safemode, go ahead and run the free scans at www.ewido.com and www.bitdefender.com just to make sure you're not seriously infected. If that sounds like too much trouble, just drag it in to a computer shop for a diagnosis.
  4. IF YOU have a waranty you can excaange it and get a new one from them ore they fix it i hope its help ful
  5. Hopefully you have your Windows XP disk... If you do, try the following. Turn the computer on, and put the XP disk in the disk drive. Shut down and restart the pc, or reboot the pc. This will boot the pc from the XP disk and you will get a screen where it will ask you if you want to do a "repair installation" or a "complete installation"... select the "repair installation", okay it to proceed. XP will run a repair function and hopefully fix the file that is causing your problem. Give this a shot as it will usually fix the problems with boot up if it is a corrupted file/folder that is giving you the problems. Hope this helps.
