i have a HP laptop computer and my SD Drive and my cd drive is not recognizing anything?

I tryed to play a cd in my computer and tried to download a thing to my computer in my CD drive but it is not registering anything in the drive. Then I tried to put a SD chip in the SD drive to put my pictures in the computer and it would not rregister that we put the chip in the computer. What could be wrong with it and how do i fix it?

1. use system restore to a previous restore point (in XP)
2. try updating the drivers or talk to an online professional from hp. go to there site you will find chat online.. just hit the link.

If your Laptop is brand new, and you experience these somewhat difficulty in operating it, you can ask the shop where you bought it to find out for you. if it's under warranty, better have them take a look at it. if its not under warranty anymore, find a good technician or you can do it yourself, maybe there's just some loose ide cable connecting the cd drive to your laptop. with regards to your chip, the chip might be the problem, try inserting a different chip in the sd drive, and if the same thing happens. then you really have to go to your technician. Best thing is, if you dont know how to do it, dont do it. i fried my cd drive once. let that be a warning. lol ^^
