1. sony and hp don't make good laptops... im not sure which marketing ploy got you to believe that... i hate Macs, but Mac actually makes quality laptops, and so does Lenovo - they make the IBM ThinkPads... those are actually good laptops and they should ship worldwide you might wanna look into Dell too here's a laptop buying guide you might find useful http://collegesoup.net/saving-money/laptop-buying-guide eBay is another option though many sellers wont ship to UK
2. Ebay is the best place though many seller don't like to ship out of America but I think shipping to UK will not be a problem that much. Just try with ebay first you will find so many good deals. I got two laptops from Ebay so far no regrets
