I got a new HP laptop and I turn it on and the screen is turned off?

I got a new HP laptop about a month ago but when I turned off my computer and later on I turn it on but the screen would stay blank. I've tried pushing the power button briefly to see if it was in hibernation mode but that doesn't work either so now I don't know what to do.

2. It sounds like you have it set to display on another monitor. On my HP laptop you hold down the fn button and push f4, it has a picture of a square. This will switch the screen display from the laptop to a tv or a montior. My laptop has a spot to connect a s-video cable. By pushing fn and f4. the laptop screen will go dark and the image is now displayed on my tv.
3. If you call tech support they will probably suggest that you do a system recovery (erase everything and start over), because that is their answer for everything. I've had it happen three times now. The shitty part is that no one at hp will tell me how I can send the piece of junk back and get a refund.
