does anyone know if the hp pavilion laptops with the extra 12 cell battery are stable when typing on them?

1. Yes, any laptop should be stable when typing on them (as long as the battery is not loose)
2. the problem with HP notebooks is that often the batteries are placed directly under the keyboard or on the palm rests, and it gets really really hot and hard to type on. get a dell -_-
