My HP Pavilion laptop is just barely a year old and the battery is toast. Is this normal?

The kicker is that the HP Pavilion was never run on battery power, except for the few times when I accidentally unplugged it. Is this normal? How much does a new battery run? My current one gives me about 10 minutes of use only. Perhaps the fact that I never really used it caused it to die.........

1. Keeping a laptop on AC power all the time will eventually kill the battery, but a year old seems to soon. Contact HP and ask them. A new battery will run $100-150 probably.
