What are the pros and cons of the HP dv6700t laptop?
I have been searching for a laptop for some time, and I have decided on either the Dell Inspiron 1420 or the HP dv6700t. I chose those for the dedicated graphics card. And I was wondering what the pros and cons of either laptop are. Ive heard that the Dell has cheap paint, and that the HP can get a little hot. Is there anything else i should know of that is good or bad about the systems.

- Other then the heat issues you mentioned, the only other issues with the dv6700 are 1. it is supposedly incredibly difficult to downgrade it to XP (some of the drivers are supposedly nearly impossible to find) so you are probably stuck w/ vista 2. the screen is pretty reflective so it is subject to glare The Dell machines have been getting a bad rap around here, I have four friends who have returned new Dells due to serious issues ,(shutdowns, BSDs not powering up) and unfortunately the Dell customer service which used to be the industry standard is not up to snuff! I would go with the HP anyway since I have been hearing a lot of good things about their build quality... supposedly getting as good as Sony's
- I'd go with the Dell every time. The reason I say this is I recently bought a HP with Vista, 2 gigs of ram and is was pathetically slow right out of the box. That was bad enough but when I went to do the mandatory HP updates HP wouldn't recognize their own software and I kept getting error messages it couldn't recognize itself. Nice huh? I took it back the next day and bought a Toshiba with the same specs except the processor was a Turion. It runs circles around the HP. On another note, I've owned a Compaq and had nothing but problems with it. Absolute junk, period. I've owned 2 Dells and never have had any problems with either. I understand the support isn't that great but I never had to use the support on one and the second I bought the Gold plan and used support on software related questions not quality or performance issues with the system. Edit: I noticed that there was a question brought up about Vista's reliability. I've had no issues with Vista. Maybe the original release was flawed but so far in the last 3 months of owning my new Toshiba I've had no problems at all. Microsoft most likely addressed whatever issues there have been after its release because it's been very reliable for me. XP is about 7 years old now and support for this OS will be probably eliminated fairly soon. At least years sooner than Vista anyway.
- My HP is excellent compared to a Dell that I had. My HP never ran hot but just to make sure I bought a cooler for underneath it for $12.00 and I've had no problems. My Dell used to get hot. By getting a cooler from the beginning, no matter what make of laptop, you will also extend the battery life.
