Umm, HP owns Compaq now.
Compaq is owned by HP, and they use the brand name to market some consumer aimed products. The HP line of notebooks is aimed more at a business market. Many come with an extended warranty as opposed to the standard 1 yr, and all come with XP pro as opposed to XP Home. These are just a couple of the reasons they cost more, as ell as the fact that they are better built & designed. regards, Philip T
Compaq is now a part of HP... Moreover, Compaq is for beginners. i.e if it is ur first laptop, Forget all this...i would suggest a MAC BOOK. i.e Apple Mac Laptops. They come with LINUX softwares and are cool for students (especially IT)
Hp owns both hte brands now compaq is for starters n its usually comes with preloaded with linux though higher end one have windows whereas Hp has windows in them n might have few extra features,m using a compaq n very happy with its performance,so if you on a budget compaq is a better option,tk kr :)

HP is better. Its manufactured by themselfe. Compaq is good but manufactured by some outsourced company. Quality wise cheaper can never be better.
